Announcements appear on this page during the course.
12/14: The projects are graded and the Hall of Fame projects are posted. If you want to add or remove your project from the Hall of Fame, please email me. For instructions see: Adding Your Project to the Hall of Fame.
12/09: If you are thinking of taking CIS-165PH next semester, but are concerned about the stated prerequisites: "CIS 10 or CS 11 or CS 12J (may be taken concurrently)", then be assured that CIS-132 has adequately prepared you.
12/07: Reminder for final exam:
Final Exam: 6:00pm-8:50pm Monday, December 11
10/29: I added an example of a text rollover to lesson 8.2.5
10/24: Just a reminder that I am available before and after class. Also, I will reopen the assignment dropbox after class so that you can submit the assignment due that Monday until midnight. No other deadlines are being extended so make sure you get your discussions and quizzes in on time!
10/13: This course is intended to be a beginning programming course. Over the last few days, I have realized that the Review Assignments are too hard for a beginning course. The wording of the instructions makes the problems harder than they need to be. Thus, I am changing the assignments retroactively (back to assignment 5) to make the Review Assignments extra credit. This means that you did not need to complete them to get a good grade. However, if you did complete the Review Assignment correctly, then I will award extra credit on the assignment. Also, I am extending the time for the last assignment (5) another day in case you got stuck on the Review Assignment and did not complete the more creative portion. In addition, I updated the assignment Web pages to reflect these changes.
10/03: I extended the due date for Quiz 4 to Thursday 10/12 in WebCT.
10/10: A few students have mentioned difficulty downloading the student files from the textbook publisher. To help, I have zipped the files and you can download them here. This should work if you are using Mac.
10/03: I reduced the number of Math and Date function calls from 10 each to 5 each for A5: Math and Dates.
10/1: If you are having problems with the Review Assignment, then I have the following suggestions:
- Read chapter 1 and try ALL the examples. These examples show you exactly what to type and will help you understand what you will need to type for the review assignment.
- Follow the Review Assignment instructions exactly.
- Read step 4d carefully. Remember that you cannot put the
imgNumber variable inside quotes.
- Remember that a function call has parenthesis like:
showImg()
9/25: I posted an example for using printed media styles to lesson 3. If you are attempting the extra credit, you might find it useful.
9/23: This is a reminder of the grading policy for discussions, which you can find in the Course Info page under "Grading Policies". Some people forgot to make a posting and some only made one of the two required at a minimum. Most postings were thoughtful and I enjoyed reading them.
9/06: I made some changes to the schedule based on feedback from some students. This affected the content of the first assignment. There is no additional work, but if you already turned in the assignment, you will need to move some of it to the second assignment. Also, it delayed the due date of the first quiz and first discussion. I will review this in class on Monday 9/11 to make sure you have sufficient time to make this change.
9/05: I posted a new entry in the FAQS entitled, "How do I upload my assignment files to WebCT?" Please read the answer if you are having problems uploading your assignment files to WebCT.
8/29: I made a change to assignment 1 to remove the Readiness Quiz.
