CIS154 Announcements

5/29: The final is graded and the results are available in WebCT. Everyone did very well on the exam. Have a great summer!

5/29: I decided to give everyone full credit for the question about identifying normal form's on the final exam. The question as written was too vague. Both 2 and 3 are correct answers, though 3 is more correct than 2.

5/13: Please note that all exercises and any extra credit is due by the last day of regular class. For CIS-154, the last day of regular class is on 5/20.

5/6: Posted sample solutions to Asg 8.

4/30: The tenative final date and time is Tuesday May 28 at 4:00 PM to 6:50 PM. Please verify this time is OK with your schedules.

4/29: Posted sample solutions to Asg 7.

4/23: Posted sample solutions to Asg 6.

4/22: I corrected the code for headings example. Eiji observed that I had already made a call to the mysql_fetch_field to get the table name. Thus, my loop was making second call without using the name from the first call.

4/22: When submitting PHP and HTML assignments, submit working code files. I am not interested in sample output as I will see that when I run the code. Thus, the files you submit should have a php, htm or html extension.

4/10: The CTC has Apache, PHP and MySQL installed for CIS 154 students.

4/8: I updated Lesson 8 to fix all the errors we found. Also, I updated the quiz to accept ASP-style tags for question 9. Note that you do not need to use loops or conditional statements for Asg 6, though you may if you want to.

3/24: Upon reflection, I changed the schedule for the rest of the term. I decided we should focus on one client/server application, rather than several. This allows us to explore client/server applications in further detail and develop a deeper understanding. Since PHP and MySQL are often used together, we are going to focus on using PHP with MySQL.

3/24: I posted the solutions to Asg 4 on the Samples page.

3/19: A few people had problems submitting Asg 4, so I decided to extend the submit time to Wednesday at 23:55. In addition, I added some corrections, clarifications and hints to Asg 5 and corrected the errors we found in Lesson 6.

3/11: I posted the instructor's solution to Asg 3 on the Samples page along with an excellent student solution.

3/11: There will be no quiz on 3/11/02. Instead, the quiz for 3/18/02 will cover lesson 4 and 5.

3/4: For Exercise 4, you only need to turn in 4A and 4B. Also, I corrected some of the errors we found in the Lesson 4 examples.

3/2: I posted Lesson 4 and Asg 4. Note that you will have two weeks to complete Asg 4. However, I would recommend you do not wait until the last minute as Asg 4 is two weeks worth of homework.

2/28: I posted the instructor's solution to Asg 2 on the Samples page along with some of the excellent student solutions.

2/25: I updated the quiz scores in WebCT. Let me know if you have any questions.

2/25: I posted the instructor's solution to Asg 1 on the Samples page. Posted answers for two FAQ suggestions.

2/17: I added a date and times to the bottom of each page telling when the page was last modified. This lets you know if a page you printed is out of date.

2/13: There are new submission instructions for both exercises and homework assignments. Please take a look and follow the new instructions.

2/13: WebCT should now have all enrolled students in the system database. Try to login and take the survey before next class. The instructions are available here. If you are an enrolled student and are still having trouble, please let me know ASAP.

2/12: Made corrections to errors in material found during last class. This includes expanded instructions for easier command-line use. The problem some of us experienced was that the default environment space was too small for adding the path. The instructions now include uping the space to a whopping 8192 bytes! (Yes, bytes. Not kilobytes or meagabytes. Just bytes. This is legacy DOS we are working with. The default amount is 512 bytes.)

2/10: As some of you have discovered, some of your WebCT accounts are now active. Rather than emailing everyone, I am posting this announcement. For information on your account login, see lesson 1: Using WebCT. Your student ID number is on your registration materials. In addition, I updated the instructions for Asg 1 to remove the use of WebCT.

2/5: Made corrections to errors in material found during last class. Changed the percentage of total grade allocated to final from 30% to 25%; made other adjustments to accomodate the change. The reason for this change was to be consistent with the incompletes policy. Added an index at the top of the Syllabus page, and rearranged the material, to make finding information easier on the page. Updated office hours to include evening hours. Added HowTo instructions for submitting in-class and lab exercises.
