Announcements will appear on this page during the course.
6/3: Rose suggested a Web resource at www.onlamp.com. It deals with Linux, Apache, MySQl, PHP (and Perl and Python).
6/2: Please complete the End-of-course Survey on WebCT.
Survey answers are anonymous and your responses will help the instructor to improve future courses.
5/19: Lab 12, due today, was the last lab you needed to turn in! There is no need to turn in the lab exercises from lesson 13 and 14. Instead, you can spend more time working on your projects.
5/3: Do not forget to submit your project proposal to WebCT by May 5.
4/19: I decided to throw out two midterm questions (by giving everyone full credit) because most people missed them. One question was on Visitor Access and the other on Server-parsed HTML. I simply marked all answers as correct. Do not be fooled by this. These questions would be good ones to put on a future quiz.
4/5: I decide to give two different answers credit on the access count question of quiz 6 since the answers were not clearly worded.
3/31: As you may have noticed, WebCT was down most of the weekend. It is up as of 9:50 AM today. I adjust the due dates of last week's exercise and quiz to provide more time for completing them.
3/22: I updated the project information to include the project proposal. In addition, I scheduled the date of the project proposal.
3/17: I extended the time to submit Lab 4 to 3/18/03 @ 23:55. I also made the updates to the SSI lecture notes.
3/17: If you had problems on the last quiz in that you could not go back to a prior question, e-mail me and explain how you were affected and what the correct answers are.
3/15: Apache 2.0 is now installed in the Mordor section of room 2504 running under Linux. You are welcome to use these stations to complete your exercises. For more information, see the HowTo for Using the 2504 Lab
3/10: On Quiz 1, the question on the process for translating a hostname into an address was incorrect. The correct answer is number 4, that both 2 and 3 are wrong. Because the book has an error, I decided to accept both answers 2 and 4 for credit.
3/7: I want to propose that we modify our class time by taking all quizzes at home. This will allow us to maximize the in-class time for working on our exercises. Will will discuss this at our next class meeting on 3/10.
3/4: Because we had trouble getting started, with holidays and power outages, I decided to extend the time to complete quiz 1 and submit Labs 0, 1 and 2 until 3/5. The labs will show their original due dates, but you will be able to submit until around 11:00 P.M. on 3/5. This message confirms my announcement in class last night.
3/3: I decided to remove the password from quiz 1. I hope this does not confuse anyone.
3/1: Since Quiz 1 is the first quiz, and people may not be used to WebCT, I have decided to let people retake the first quiz one time. You will need to wait at least one hour between attempts. One suggestion for taking quizzes is to review the Self-Review Questions from the textbook before the quiz. Please complete your second attempt before the assessment period expires.
2/25: We decided last night to complete Lab 2 and Quiz 1 as homework. You can take Quiz 1 on WebCT until 3/2/03. The quiz password is: getstarted. Also, you have until Friday (2/28) to submit Lab 0 and Lab 1. New students should have a WebCT account by Wednesday. If you cannot login to WebCT by Wednesday, please let me know.
2/15: I added a section in the HowTos on Getting Started With Linux.
2/13: I have received official word that our class will take place this semester!
2/12: I updated Lesson 1.1 to add some introductory material on networking. If you are unclear about networking, please take a look.
2/11: If you are adding this class, please make sure you process the add slip before Friday. Decisions will be made at the end of this week on which courses to cut.
2/11: The correct Lab 0 assignment is now posted. Also, WebCT is working now.
