Use the 2504 Lab

Overview

This document describes how to use the lab in room 2504. Please report any problems using the lab to the lab assistant or the instructor.

About the Lab Work Stations

The lab work stations for this course are located under the Mordor concept art in room 2504. There are 4 workstations you may use. Note that this is not the only course that uses these four workstations. CIS130 and CIS154 also use the workstations. Current policy is first-come, first-use. We may change this policy if problems are reported.

Thursday 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM
Friday 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM
Saturday 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Sunday 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM


Starting a Linux Workstation

Note: Do not turn on the power before you select the disk drive.

  1. Before turning on the power, press the left button of the drive selectors
  2. Turn on the power
  3. Login as:
    User: cis164
    Password: password

Note that the superuser password is mordor.

Also note that Windows XP and IIS are available on the middle drive.


Reinstalling Apache

Apache is installed in the lab as described in Lesson 4. If a serious problem develops with Apache, you are free to try to fix it on the lab machines. You may also remove and reinstall it.


Reimaging the Workstation

As a last resort, you may reimage the lab workstation. Instructions are on the floppy disk found with each workstation. You need to insert the floppy disk and reboot.

After Windows starts, type win2k at the command prompt. This starts the reimaging process, which completes automatically.

After imaging process completes, remove the floppy and reboot the system. Please remember to put the floppy disk back into the plastic pocket.
