I encourage you to form a learning team or to just sit together in lab. Meet in the CTC together to work on homework exercises and programs.
When working together, you should feel free to discuss problems and ideas for solving problems. However, you are not free to show each other solutions to exercises or actual code. Group study can accelerate learning, but only when each student takes responsibility for mastering all the material before the group. Little is learned if each student works only one or two problems and merely copies answers for the rest. If you have questions about what is permissible, just ask me.
On some assignments in some courses, I do allow people to work together and exchange detailed information. When working this way, you must follow some guidelines designed to ensure you learn the material. If you are interested in working with other people, please ask me.
Tutorial Center
Limited tutoring is available (at most 1 hour a week). Sign-up materials are available at the CTC and the Tutorial Center.
Private Tutoring
Costs money, but could be worth it. Check the bulletin board in the CTC.
Writing Center
A student who needs assistance in solving specific writing problems may drop in to receive individual help. Students should bring the paper or assignment with them. Interested persons may receive more information at the center, building 1000 (enter on opposite side of library), or by calling 479-6319.
