Announcements appear on this page during the course.
4/29: This is a reminder that 5/6 is the last day to withdraw from a course.
4/25: Here is an interesting article on the need for computer programmers, "A Red Flag In The Brain Game". If you like programming, then you have a good and lucrative career ahead of you.
4/07: The midterms are graded and you can view your results in WebCT. We will go over the exam next class meeting.
4/02: I added some example programming questions to WebCT so you can get a feel for the programming part of the midterm. Note that the programming questions are like CodeLab.
3/31: This is a reminder that Exercise 8.3 is optional and extra credit. However, I will only give the extra credit if your code is different than the solution that I give.
3/28: I added some hints to the instructions for A7: Counting the Odds.
3/23: I made a change to A7: Counting the Odds. The assignment now requires the inputNumber() function to test if a value is between min and max.
3/10: WebCT and email is scheduled to be down for maintenance from 5:00 PM to about 7:30 PM today (Friday).
3/08: Here is a hint for A4: Clothing Sizer: if you are using more than two or three if statements, you are probably using too many and need to use a different approach. Remember how to convert numbers to integers and what happens when using integer division.
3/02: (Day class only) It turns out that the definition of "rule of thumb" used in The Boondock Saints is incorrect (Aren't urban legends fun!). A rule of thumb is an easily learned and applied procedure for making some determination. For a more complete discussion, see "Rule of thumb" in Wikidedia.
2/23: (Day class only) I switched the order of section 3.3 and 3.4. Also, I changed the exercise for 3.3 (was 3.4). You can complete either the old exercise or the new exercise -- the choice is yours!
2/14: WebCT accounts should be available about 2 working days after you enroll in the course. If you have trouble logging in to WebCT after enrolling, please email or call me for help. Your initial WebCT password should be STUDENT. If STUDENT does not work, and you had a WebCT account last semester, you should try to login with your old password. If all else fails, I can reset your password.
2/9: As discussed in class, I updated both the lesson 1 notes and A1: Information Please! Do NOT turn in the wrong assignment if you want full credit. Also note that I changed the CodeLab exercises for CodeLab 1 -- there are no CodeLab exercises due the first week.
2/8: Though I have not assigned or reviewed the first homework yet, some students may have started the first assignment that was posted on my web site. This announcement is letting you know that I made some changes to the first assignment today and that you should make sure you complete the correct assignment. Do NOT turn in the wrong assignment if you want full credit.
