How To Submit In-Class Exercises

Overview

This document describes how to submit your in-class exercises. Our current technique is to submit a text document to WebCT. To ensure full credit, you need to follow the guidelines explained in this document. Usually, all exercises for one week should be combined into one document.

Exercise Header

Every file should have a comment block at the top containing the course number, exercise number, your name and status of the exercises. One or two lines is usually sufficient for the status. For example:

Exercises for lesson 2
Jane User, Joe Partner
Status: all exercises completed

Please be accurate in the status because the grader (i.e. your instructor) looks at incomplete exercises more leniently if the unresolved problems are clearly identified.

Exercise Labels

For every exercise contained in the file, include a header line that clearly identifies the exercise. For example:

Exercise 2.1

There is normally just one file submitted for all exercises from one class. If you work with another student on the exercises, then both of you must submit the exercise. Make sure that both names are on any document you submit.

Submission Instructions

Please submit a text file, which includes HTML files, rather than a Word or Excel document. Note that the file should be viewable in WebCT with an extension of "txt" or ".html". If it is not viewable in WebCT, you may lose points.

  1. Check your files to make certain you have the Exercise Header information at the top of each file
  2. Verify that every exercise is labeled clearly
  3. Submit the files using WebCT. Do NOT zip files or alter them from text in any way.

Note that you do NOT need to submit a README.txt files with exercises.

In Case of Difficulty

If WebCT is not available, or is giving you trouble, then contact the instructor for assistance. If the hour is late and your assignment is due early the next day, then email the instructor with a description of the problem and attach your assignment, with a copy to yourself. Also, bring your assignment to class in digital form so you can try to upload before class.

The instructor cannot post your grade unless you submit your assignment using WebCT. Thus, the instructor will work with you to get your assignment submitted through WebCT. However, the final responsibility for submitting assignments to WebCT on time rests with the student. Please plan ahead in case of difficulties.
